Description

Position Summary:

 

Provides clinical assessment and treatment services to adult patients with suspected communication impairments, including hearing impairments, and/or swallowing disorders in accordance with the Standards of Practice and Ethics of the College of Audiologists and Speech/Language Pathologists of Ontario.

Provides clinical education and training to staff, community caregivers and families in: appropriate communication techniques, recognition of referral needs, and providing assistance to those who have swallowing difficulties that require specialized food textures, implements, positioning or cuing during feeding.

Participates in discipline-specific and interdisciplinary activities that are directed towards modeling and promoting a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to operational efficiency, professional and program development.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Speech Language Pathology

  • Current unrestricted registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario

  • Experience with adult clients preferred

  • Experience in communication disorders involving voice, congenital, acquired or progressive neurological disorders and swallowing 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to prepare reports, interpret results in a manner that is clear and understandable and provide training and direction

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Commitment to instructing students an asset

  • Good attendance and availability required
